All of my ceramics are made by me in my studio using a potter's wheel or handbuilt using clay slabs or coils.  These days I am usually working in a dark reddish-brown stoneware clay that takes a mid-range firing and makes for durable, chip-resistant pottery appropriate for every day use

My pottery surfaces are achieved with colored underglazes that I paint on. I will often mix colors to achieve different tones and colors.  After the underglaze dries, I carve into the designs with a pin tool, which reveals the dark clay beneath while creating contrast that makes the design pop. I also like to highlight pieces with hashmarks, dots and scratching, which gives more visual and surface texture. All pieces are then finished with a clear, shiny glaze.
